Focus and Scope

The Journal of Ion Channels strives to publish both original ion channel research, and also timely and informative review articles on ion channel structure and function.

The journal is exclusively online and this keeps costs low and these savings are reflected in our unusually low submission and publication charges. With increased support from industry, we hope to eventually eliminate author charges.

Coverage of ion channel research will be broad and submissions are encouraged from all areas of ion channel research. Original research articles should present novel findings and unsolicited review articles are also encouraged.

Peer Review Process

Submitted manuscripts are subject to a rigorous but speedy peer review process. This review process is designed to help authors to improve their manuscripts by giving them constructive comments on how to improve their paper, and to publish only those articles which comply to general quality criteria of a scholarly paper, especially originality, clarity, references to related work and validity of results and conclusions.

Each submission is first examined by the editor for general suitability. Submitters of unsuitable manuscripts will be informed in about 1 week. Potentially suitable manuscripts will be sent to 2 reviewers for assessment. Generally, the review time is kept to under 1 month and papers are published online shortly after acceptance.

The online nature of this journal allows for rapid publication and dissemination of results. The fact that the articles are freely available further increases the impact of each publication.

Publication Frequency

As an exclusively online journal, individual articles will be published as soon as they are ready for display. There are no individual issues, but rather a single volume for each year.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...
